The human voice is a powerful instrument that we use to communicate, express ourselves, and connect with others. It is essential for our personal and professional lives, and yet many of us take it for granted. World Voice Day is celebrated on 16th April every year and aims to educate people about the significance of their voice and promote healthy vocal habits.

Despite the rise in digital communication channels such as email, chatbots, and social media, voice still plays a critical role in business communication. Voice, unlike many other channels, allows for a more personal and human connection, and can convey nuances of tone and emotion that may be lost in text-based communication. It can also help build trust and credibility with clients, as well as facilitate efficient and effective communication within a team.

In addition, many businesses still rely on phone calls for customer support and sales, making voice communication a crucial aspect of their operations.

The importance of voice in customer service

Voice communication isn’t just indispensable when it comes to internal collaboration. 95% of decision-makers say phones are critical to customer engagement too. Building authentic, human-centric rapport with customers through digital means is also a real priority for forward-thinking businesses.

And, while there are several different ways for customers to connect with businesses today, studies show almost 90% of people prefer to speak to a customer service agent than use another channel of communication.

While IVR, chatbots and social channels have made customer service more accessible and efficient, it’s no replacement for real human contact. Being able to understand human emotion and vulnerability is something that’s uniquely human. As businesses seek to meet ever-evolving customer demands, providing a human touch and tone of voice will still be crucial.

What’s The Future For Voice?

We believe that there’s a very exciting future for voice. It remains such a core communication channel for the vast majority of businesses today. As organizations look to improve their operational efficiency and standards of customer service, they are increasingly looking for solutions to achieve that aim. Established in 2010, Natterbox has been part of the incredible transformation of voice telephony has undergone over the last decade. During that time we’ve seen huge changes not just to the way and where people work but also in what customers are looking for.

Today, Salesforce centric customers work with us to integrate their voice telephony into their Salesforce CRM platform, revolutionizing the customer experience and accelerating sales and service efficiency through our leading Voice For Salesforce solution. We’re also helping to change the way businesses can interact with customers too, with solutions such as voice analytics to analyze emotions, identify phrases or incentives that drive improved compliance and promote better personalization of communications. All of these solutions rely on voice.

While many predicted that telephone calls might be trumped by new emerging technologies, it’s clear that voice technology isn’t going anywhere. With further new technologies such as conversational AI, 5G and voice-enabled hardware, the technology that surrounds us will still rely heavily on voice. It’s therefore no wonder that according to the Future of Voice study, 98% of respondents stated they expect their reliance on voice technology to increase if not stay the same.

So, with all that in mind, let’s celebrate World Voice Day, look after our voices and work together to develop even more technology that’s going to make even greater use of one of humankind’s most incredible skills.
